Counselling

I will accept clients for counselling from anywhere as long as you are willing to travel to Northampton . I work with individuals and couples on a range of issues such as

  • Relationships
  • Loss, death and bereavement
  • Self esteem
  • Depression, anxiety or stress
  • Sexual Orientation including Sexual Minority Therapy

Sexual Minority Therapy may be for individuals with issues relating to their sexuality or for their family and/or friends.

I am a member of the register of Pink Therapists - see Related Links.

I offer short-term therapy, usually 6-10 sessions, or longer term work and have the ability to adapt my counselling style so it best meets your needs.

Counselling is essentially about helping you to deal better with everyday life through recognising and resolving issues either current or in the past; the two are often related. We will work at a pace that suits you, in an open, totally non-judgemental way and with due regard to your values, beliefs and culture. My aim is to create an environment in which you feel supported and safe to examine aspects of your life.

Counselling is not about me providing answers. It is about empowering you to find your own solutions by improving your own self-awareness and understanding.

All my counselling work is subject to a written contract agreed with the client. The contract covers

  • Confidentiality (please see below)
  • The length of each session (normally 50 minutes)
  • The payment of fees
  • The number of planned sessions. (This is open to on-going adjustment)

The contract will normally be agreed at the end of the initial session. The initial session is designed to allow you to decide if I am the counsellor for you and, just as importantly, for me to assess if I am able to work with you. If I feel I am unable to help you I will explain why and suggest possible alternative sources of support.

All work is completely confidential. As an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice and Professional Conduct Procedure. Part of that good practice is to meet regularly with a Counselling Supervisor to discuss my work. Clients referred to during this supervision are only identified by their allocated reference, not by name.

Should I feel it appropriate to involve a third party, perhaps your GP or another support service, this would only be done after discussion and with your full agreement.
